From starting my career in art and photography, I moved into written communication and Public Relations before eventually moving back to art once I retired from full-time work. My first tentative steps into painting again were taken when I joined the Bardsea Art Group, near Ulverston. Under the guidance of its founder, the renowned Ron Stacey, I discovered the medium of pastel and, although he also mentored me through the intricacies of watercolour, oil and acrylic, I have found that pastel is my preferred medium. Having said that, it rather depends upon what suits the subject matter and the preference of the person who commissions the artwork as to which medium I use. I am thankful to have several contacts who are very good photographers (Trevor Ronson, James Park and Adam Kappa) who have generously allowed me to use some of their outstanding images as a basis for my paintings, particularly of locations within the Lake District and around Silverdale itself. Although I have exhibited at Bardsea and with the Ulverston Society of Artists, 2019 will be the first time I have exhibited with the Silverdale Art Group having moved to this lovely area in 2018. I am continuing to develop my style and gratefully learn both from my fellow members of Silverdale Art Group and from the very talented tutors who visit us from time to time.
